Suncoat Water-based Nail Polish FAQs

1.  How long does Suncoat nail polish stay on?

Suncoat water-based nail polish has been formulated to adhere well to the nail bed.  If left on nails for an extended time, it may require a little more effort to remove.  For easy removal, remove the polish weekly.

2.  How do I remove Suncoat nail polish?

Although conventional nail polish remover will remove Suncoat nail polish, it is recommended that you use Suncoat Natural Nail Polish Remover, which is safer and gentler to your skin and nails.  Dab the remover onto your nails using a cotton bud or ball and allow at least 2 minutes for the remover to soften the polish.  Then rub your nails until the polish is fully removed. Repeat when necessary.  Rinse your hands in water to remove any residue. To remove without nail polish remover, first soak your nails in hot water for a couple of minutes, then gently scrape off the polish using a fingernail.

3. What if Suncoat nail polish becomes too thick and streaky?

Simply add water, ONE DROP AT A TIME, to the bottle and shake well before use.  Adding too much water to the polish may result in polish separation, so be sure to try your polish after each drop.

4.  Is Suncoat water-based nail polish 100% natural?

No it isn't, but it is the most natural nail polish available today.  Generally speaking, water-based nail polish contains about 60-70% natural ingredients, namely water.  The remaining 30-40% of this type of nail polish is mainly film-formers, typically acrylic copolymer, styrene-acrylic copolymer and polyurethane.  These film formers are synthetic, not natural.  They are the plastics that coat the nails after the polish dries.  They form a film only and should not harm your nails. The rest of the ingredients in water-based nail polish, after water and film formers are film-forming aids, such as soap and colourants.  They only account for 1-10% of the contents.Suncoat water-based nail polish is about as natural as you can get.  It contains 70% water and only 1-3% natural colourants (earth pigments).  It contains NO phthalate of any kind.

5.  Is it possible to make 100% natural nail polish?

Yes. However 100% natural nail polish comes of VERY easily in water.  It has little staying power.  If you want the most nontoxic, water-based nail polish available and you want it to last, then you should choose Suncoat.

6.  Is Toluene and Formaldehyde-free nail polish as good as water-based nail polish?

No it's not.  There are many nail polish brands out there claiming to be free of toluene and formaldehyde, available in pharmacies, department stores and the like.  Although it's a good thing that their nail polishes do not contain these two toxic VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds), they are still primarily made up of chemical solvents - acetates.  Acetates, which constitute 60-70% of this type of nail polish, also release toxic VOCs - that is, they give off chemical fumes, pollute the air, have an offensive odour and are highly flammable and explosive.  They can still damage your nails, making them yellow, brittle and weak.

In Suncoat water-based nail polish, these chemical solvents are replaced by water.  Toluene and formaldehyde-free nail polish is a start.....Suncoat nail polish is a revolutionary advance.

7.  I've stopped using conventional nail polish and nail polish remover, yet my nails are still weak and damaged, what should I do?

You should refrain from using any nail polish and consult your health care provider for advice.
